Event Preview

Formula 1 action returns to Monza at the start of September, as the prestigious Italian Grand Prix will be staged. Max Verstappen has enjoyed an excellent record in the race in recent years, winning three times since 2022. A total distance of 306.720 km will be covered by the field at Monza, with the total race distance made up by 53 laps. Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton hold the joint record with five victories apiece in the Italian Grand Prix.

Kimi Antonelli could become the first Italian to win the Monza race since 1952. Antonelli continues to hold a healthy advantage at the top of the Drivers’ Championship, but his Mercedes appeared to lack the race pace to contend with Lando Norris in both the Hungarian and Dutch Grand Prix. However, the Italian remains the most succesful driver on the grid this season with six race wins.

George Russell moved back up to second in the Drivers’ standings after finishing third in the Netherlands. However, team orders allowed Antonelli to overtake the Brit, indicating that Mercedes may already be prioritizing the teenager. Russell was fortunate that Lewis Hamilton’s late charge for third was hindered following a late safety car, with the Ferraris eventually settling for fourth and fifth.

It was a miserable final home Grand Prix for Verstappen, who crashed out on the first lap. Oscar Piastri endured a mixed weekend in the Netherlands, eventually finishing sixth. Aston Martin would have also taken huge positives from the weekend in the Netherlands, with Fernando Alonso scoring two points after finishing ninth.

Italian Grand Prix Picks

The unpredictable nature of F1 this season ensures that there will be value in the betting. At the odds, Kimi Antonelli looks like the eye-catching selection to win his home race. The Italian has finished on the podium in each of the last three races, and he holds the record for the most race victories in 2026 with six victories.
