The penultimate leg of the European schedule in Formula 1 for 2026 is set for Sunday, September 13, as the Madring hosts a Grand Prix for the first time. Event Preview
Exciting action on the Formula 1 schedule is set for this weekend, as the Madring hosts a Grand Prix for the first time this weekend. The Circuit de Catalunya had previously hosted every edition of the Spanish Grand Prix since 1990, but the new-look street circuit will see drivers race through the streets of the Spanish capital.
Kimi Antonelli is undeniably the driver to beat this weekend, after becoming the first Italian to win the Italian Grand Prix since 1966. The victory was a remarkable feat by F1’s brightest talent, working his way through the grid after starting 19th. Antonelli’s dominance over teammate George Russell was reflected in the final stages after overtaking his Mercedes rival with a couple of laps remaining.
In truth, the Championship battle appears nearly over, with Antonelli now holding a 56-point advantage over Russell. Lewis Hamilton also lost ground in the championship after a first-lap battle with teammate Charles Leclerc saw him drop down the order, before eventually fighting back up to sixth. Leclerc also endured a disappointing weekend in Ferrari’s home race, dramatically crashing out to force a red flag in the opening stages.
McLaren will take confidence from their recent form, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, at Monza. Pierre Gasly was one of the stories of the weekend in Italy, storming to a stunning pole position in qualifying before picking up important points for Alpine with a seventh-place finish.
