Event Preview

Australia’s most prestigious golf event will be staged this weekend, with the BMW Australian PGA Championship seeing players compete across 7,085 yards for their share of the A$2.5 million purse. The competition is co-sanctioned with the European Tour, and is part of the schedules on the PGA Tour of Australasia and OneAsia Tour.

Home players have enjoyed an excellent record in this event, with Australians winning each of the last seven editions. That excellent trend continued last year, as Elvis Smylie beat Cameron Smith by two strokes.

Smith will be a popular selection among many this weekend, despite having endured a challenging campaign. Smith has won this event on three previous occasions, and has finished in the top two on four of the previous seven editions.

Min Woo Lee should also be considered this weekend. The Australian won the event back in 2023, and he has shown his world-class ability already this calendar year after winning once on the PGA Tour.

Daniel Hillier could be a more interesting betting proposition at the prices. The New Zealander ended last season’s DP World Tour in reliable form, and his big-driving style could be perfectly suited to this course.

BMW Australian PGA Championship Picks

We are keen to go against the Aussie trend this weekend, and Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen could provide an interesting angle. The Danish player is yet to win this calendar year, but his proven record at the highest level has already seen him finish T3 at the DP World Tour Championship. A long overdue win could arrive this weekend.
