Event Preview
A lucrative purse of over $9 million will be up for grabs this week on the PGA Tour, as some of the world’s best compete across 7,765 yards at the Farmers Insurance Open. This event was first held in 1952, and the tournament records are currently held by George Burns and Tiger Woods.
A lot of attention will be on Brooks Koepka this weekend, as the five-time major champion makes his first start since returning to the PGA Tour. The American is a nine-time winner on the Tour, but he is yet to win since his third PGA Championship in 2023.
We flagged up Ryan Gerard as out pick for The American Express last weekend, and he came extremely close after finishing in T2. Gerard will continue to hold excellent claims in California this weekend after finishing in the top two on his last three starts.
Chris Gotterup should also be a leading contender based on recent performances. He has made the cut on his last two starts at Torrey Pines. Hideki Matsuyama is another with solid course form, and his confidence should be high after taking T13 at the Sony Open.
Xander Schauffele is likely to be the favorite in the betting this weekend. The American bypassed The American Express last weekend, but his solid form has seen him achieve three top ten finishes on his last five starts.
Farmers Insurance Open Picks
I really like Jason Day’s chances at the Farmers Insurance Open this weekend. The Australian finished an excellent T2 at The American Express last week, and he holds excellent course form at Torrey Pines, winning on two previous occasions, and taking nine top ten finishes.
