Event Preview
Thrilling action on the PGA Tour is set for this weekend, as the high-quality events in California roll on. The Genesis Invitational will see the field compete across 7,802 yards, with the current record score held by Lanny Wadkins, who finished 20-under in 1985.
Ludvig Aberg was an impressive winner of the event in 2025, finishing a shot clear of Maverick McNealy. Scottie Scheffler will once again be the solid favorite after battling back to take a share of fourth at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am last weekend. However, the fact that he is yet to show his best form in this event could ensure that he is a slightly weak favorite.
Collin Morikawa enjoyed a welcome return to winning ways in California last weekend, while Tommy Fleetwood also caught the eye. The Englishman has a strong record at the course, and his consistency ensures that he is a major contender at the prices.
Rory McIlroy endured a frustrating weekend last time out, only finishing T14 at Pebble Beach. His record at Riviera offers little confidence, having failed to finish in the top ten since 2022. Sam Burns is a solid chance after taking T6 last time out. The American was T10 at the Genesis Invitational in 2024.
Genesis Invitational Picks
Plenty will have interesting chances this weekend, but Patrick Cantlay catches the eye. The American rallied to take a top-15 finish last weekend, and he has achieved top-five finishes on five occasions at the Genesis Invitational. This course suits his style, and he could be a play against the favorites.
