Event Preview
The Sony Open has been one of the standout early-season events on the PGA Tour since its inaugural edition in 1965.
Players will compete across 7,044 yards at the Wai’alae Country Club, with the par 70-course including significant challenges for players to overcome. Nick Taylor comes into this year’s event as the defending champion, while Justin Thomas and John Huston hold the respective aggregate and par records.
Russell Henley will be a prominent selection among bettors this weekend. The American made his big breakthrough in the Sony Open back in 2013. Since then, he has maintained an excellent record in the event, finishing in the top eleven on four occasions in the past five years.
Hideki Matsuyama is typically a player who starts the calendar year in red-hot form, and he is likely to be a leading contender due to that. The Japanese superstar’s confidence should be high after ending last year on a high, while he was a winner at the Hawaiian event back in 2022.
Robert MacIntyre continues to excel on the PGA Tour, enjoying a statement 2025 campaign, which ended in success at the Ryder Cup. He ended the DP World Tour in excellent form with two top ten finishes, and he is an interesting contender at the prices on his third start at the Sony Open.
Sony Open Picks
At the prices, Harry Hall could be a very interesting selection. The Englishman enjoyed a breakout year on the Tour last season, before fading in the closing months. He goes well at this course, and he could be a great chance to improve on his T10 finish at the event 12 months ago.
