Event Preview
Competitive action will be staged on the PGA Tour this weekend, as a purse of $9 million will be up for grabs at The American Express. Players will compete across 7,060 yards at La Quinta Country Club, with the current tournament record score held by Nick Dunlap.
This weekend will be all about the return of world number one, and the four-time Player of the Year winner, Scottie Scheffler. The American has been absent due to a hand injury, but he regularly excels at this event, finishing third among his consistent results.
Robert MacIntyre is one of my favorite players on the PGA Tour, due to there always being value in siding with his chances. The Scot continues his consistent level of performances by taking T4 at the Sony Open, and he has now achieved top-ten finishes on his last four starts.
Ben Griffin should also be respected this weekend. The American returned to action with a T19 finish at the Sony Open last weekend. Enjoys the PGA Tour events on the west coast, finishing in the top ten in each of his last two appearances.
The American Express Picks
At a big price, Ryan Gerard could upset the odds this weekend. He was a P2 in Mauritius earlier this season, before taking second in the Sony Open last weekend. His progression shows no sign of stopping, and he could outperform his odds in California this weekend.
