Bowling Green Stakes: Betting Preview
The world-class racing action at Saratoga continues this weekend, as a competitive field has been assembled for the G2 Bowling Green Stakes. William Mott runners should be respected, as the trainer has won the race on five previous occasions.
Michael Maker also has a fine recent record in the race, meaning that Ole Crazy Bone should be a leading contender. The Ghostzapper gelding was an excellent winner of the G2 Kentucky Turf Cup on his last start in 2025, and he likely needed his return run when second at Churchill Downs at the end of May.
Minaret Station should be primed for a big run now up in distance. He finished strongly on his latest effort when chasing home Lagynas in the G3 Arlington Stakes. He is already a two-time winner in stakes company, which included victories in the G2 Bourbon and American Derby.
Carcano may be one of the most interesting outsiders this weekend for trainer Victoria Oliver. The six-year-old was only narrowly beaten in an allowance race at Keeneland in April, but looked to be doing much of his best work late in the day.
Graham Motion saddles Soleil Volant this Saturday. The four-year-old has looked more comfortable since being gelded last September, and his return effort was an eye-catching run when second behind Just A Touch in the Henlopen Stakes.
Bowling Green Stakes Picks
Based on the form, Fort George should be incredibly hard to beat on Saturday. The British raider for trainer Ed Walker performed against the very best turf horses earlier this season, finishing a close second behind Rebel’s Romance in the G2 Dubai City of Gold, before chasing home Ombudsman in the G1 Dubai Turf. Is proven over this distance after landing a handicap at Newbury last year and scoring in the G3 Dubai Millennium at the start of 2026.
