The first Graded race on the grass at this year’s Breeders’ Cup will see a red-hot 5 ½ furlongs covered in the Turf Sprint. Bacio will be a leading chance based on the odds available at the best horse racing betting sites, as Wesley Ward chases a second win in the race since 2021.
However, outsiders have an excellent record in the race, with recent victors being priced up at +3400 and +4100. You can find everything that you need to know about the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, including rundowns of past performances and our picks, here.

Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint 2026 Leading Contenders
Bacio (Wesley Ward)
Wesley Ward famously won the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint back in 2021, as Golden Pal delivered a blistering turn of foot. History could repeat itself in 2026, as Bacio looks like an extremely exciting contender for the yard. The three-year-old has won his last four, which include dominant showings in the U.S., before putting European rivals in their place away from home.
Bacio was excellent when finishing three lengths clear in the Palace of Holyroodhouse at Royal Ascot before reaching a new gear when showing excellent stamina to see off Starlust to land the G1 Nunthorpe. Fits the profile based on recent three-year-old success, and comes into this year’s Turf Sprint as the most exciting contender.
Comanche Brave (Donnacha O’Brien)
Based on the latest odds for the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, Comanche Brave is the leading European contender. The four-year-old has been excellent throughout the season, winning three of his last four starts. He lost little in defeat over six furlongs when only beaten two lengths by Almeraq in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee.
Bounced back to beat the talented Venetian Sun in the G1 July Cup, before showing versatility on softer ground to hold off American Affair in the G1 Flying Five. His RPRs indicate that he is still improving, recording a 122 at the Curragh last time, which is superior to anything recorded by Bacio to this point.
Cy Fair (George Weaver)
Cy Fair could be the forgotten horse in this field following a disappointing effort last time when only sixth in the G2 Music City Stakes. However, excuses could be given for that run, as it was over 6 ½ furlongs and also Kentucky Downs likely didn’t suit.
The three-year-old has been otherwise progressive throughout the season, landing the G3 Mamzelle and G3 Coronation Cup at Churchill Downs and Saratoga, respectively. His peak RPR of 118 was recorded in the latter, which is inferior to the market rivals for the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Dark Horse to Consider
The Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint is typically a puzzle to work out, and I have pinpointed two outsiders worth considering. Starlust is a previous Turf Sprint champion in his own right, and has looked to be steadily building back to his best form, finishing within two lengths of Miss Yechance in the G3 World Trophy Stakes.
He gave plenty of weight away that day, and the winner subsequently followed up to land Group One honors in France. The short straight will suit the Ralph Beckett horse, and he holds plenty of interesting pieces of form, including when only a length behind Bacio in the G1 Nunthorpe.
Philip D’Amato also has an interesting outsider in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint to consider. Sorrento Sky will need a complete pace collapse in order for things to go his way, but there is every chance with Bacio, Reef Runner, and Shisospicy all likely to battle for front-running duties.
A collapse would suit the five-year-old, who has won over five furlongs in the G2 Green Flash and over 6 ½ furlongs in the G2 Eddie D Stakes. A notable angle worth considering for Exotics, especially considering that he will be doing better than most in the closing stages.
Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint 2026 Picks
As mentioned, Sorrento Sky is an interesting selection in Exotics, while Comanche Brave and Bacio hold very obvious claims and are unwise to overlook. However, Miss Yechance could be a big improver in the field, and could be set to fire at Keeneland for Karl Burke.
The three-year-old filly showed excellent speed to see off Shiri to land the G1 Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp, and she has quickly racked up three straight wins on rattling quick ground at three different tracks in the second half of the summer.
She has previous international winning form over sprint distances after winning at Meydan in January, and her RPRs of 109 and 115 suggest her rapid improvement should be respected, especially given that her prominent run style should suit Keeneland.
