Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf 2026 Picks, Odds, Leading Contenders, Betting Insights & Analysis
The seventh race on Championships Saturday at the Breeders’ Cup will see a red-hot renewal of the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf. As expected, there will be a strong European contingent involved in the race, but it is a race that was won by the French in 2025, as Gezora landed the honors for trainer Francis Graffard.

Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf 2026 Leading Contenders
Precise (Aidan O’Brien)
While Diamond Necklace heads the betting, it is likely that Aidan O’Brien will send his standout three-year-old to the Turf. Therefore, the Irish Maestro is likely to be represented by Precise in the Filly & Mare Turf.
The filly has largely been seen over a mile throughout the season, winning the G1 Irish 1,000 Guineas and landing the G1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. However, she has been firmly put in her place over a mile by the supremely talented Blue Bolt in three Group Ones, leading to a step up in trip when runner-up in the G1 Prix de l’Opera in France.
There was plenty to like about her run on that day, and well worth another go over a longer trip than a mile.
Lush Lips (Brendan Walsh)
The Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf could be a good opportunity for U.S. trainers to get on the board this year, as there is a slightly unknown quantity when it comes to the European raiders. Lush Lips has done very little wrong for the Brendan Walsh team throughout the season, winning on four of her stakes starts and finishing as the runner-up on the other four.
She looked unsuited to a mile at Keeneland last time when only beaten a nose by Classic Q in the G1 First Lady. The step back up in distance promises to suit, having already won the G2 Mrs Revere at Churchill Downs and, importantly, the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland last year.
Is likely to go under the radar, but looks primed for a big run after two efforts to get back up to speed this season.
Aventure (Christophe Ferland)
Aventure is a very interesting contender to give the French a second straight win in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf. The five-year-old never gave her true running in the G1 Prix de l’Opera at Longchamp last time, but closed to within three lengths of the eventual winner in the closing stages. Prior to that, she had form that mixed in with some of the best turf horses around, including winning form over Diamond Necklace in the G1 Prix Jean et Louis Romanet and Sunly in the G2 Prix Corrida. Has also competed against recently crowned Arc champion, Daryz, finishing within five lengths of the superstar in the G1 Prix Ganay. The conditions will be the only question, as all of her best runs have come on good-to-soft or worse.
Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf Dark Horse to Consider
A couple of outsiders worthy of consideration include Balantina and Gimme A Nother. The latter could be a leading American hope for the yard of Graham Motion. The six-year-old produced a career-best effort to land the G1 E.P. Taylor Stakes at Woodbine in September, with that race producing last year’s second in the Filly & Mare Turf, She Feels Pretty. She has thrived in stakes company this season since being stepped up in distance, winning the G2 Beverly D and G3 Eatontown. Well worth her shot in this company.
Balantina could be an under-the-radar contender from the Donnacha O’Brien yard. The three-year-old has been campaigned over a mile since winning the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf last season, and was last seen finishing just behind Precise when third behind Blue Bolt in the G1 Falmouth. Everything suggests that she should excel up in distance as a daughter of Ten Sovereigns, who has produced winners of the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes (Lush Lips) and American Turf Stakes (Zulu Kingdom).
Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf 2026 Picks
Balantina, Lush Lips, and Gimme A Nother all make the shortlist for the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, but the main play is Kathrynmarissa, for Chad Brown, who has won this race three times since 2014.
The five-year-old is thriving this season, with the daughter of American Triple Crown winner American Pharoah quickly racking up a double of Graded race wins in the G1 Diana and G2 Flower Bowl. Her only defeat came when she was denied a clear run in the G1 New York, but that form was swiftly reversed.
She already holds winning form over last year’s Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf winner Gezora, easily putting a length between herself and the field in the G3 Modesty. Keeneland should be a track that plays to her strengths, and she is incredibly efficient on track, winning seven of 15 starts, and finishing in the first three on five further occasions.
