Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint 2026 Leading Contenders

Libertango (George Boughey)

George Boughey has enjoyed an excellent season in Europe, notably landing a first Classic with Bow Echo. He will hold excellent claims in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint, as Libertango looks set to take his chance over the shorter distance.

The two-year-old filly has won three from five career starts, and was last seen chasing home the incredibly talented Sun Goddess, finishing just a length behind the Aidan O’Brien runner in the G1 Cheveley Park. He is a two-time group winner this season, including victory at Royal Ascot in the G3 Albany. Plenty of speed based on his pedigree, with No Nay Never producing five-furlong Group One winner Mission Central.

Nabati (Charlie Appleby)

Charlie Appleby’s runners should always be respected at the Breeders’ Cup, ensuring that Nabati should be considered. The two-year-old by Night Of Thunder has largely been campaigned over six furlongs this season, winning the G2 Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury on his latest start.

Was only narrowly denied in the Scotsman Stakes over seven furlongs when behind the talented Forbidden Fire. This drop back to five furlongs would be a slight concern, as his performances on track and his pedigree suggest that a mile could be better suited to his profile.

Orthodox (Clive Cox)

Orthodox is arguably the most interesting European contender in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint. The two-year-old by Havana Grey has proven winning form over the distance, notably landing the G2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot. That form has worked out well, with a couple of horses behind coming out to win since June.

The Clive Cox runner was beaten on unsuitably soft ground in France in August, but returned with a career-best effort to land the G1 Middle Park Stakes, beating Force Noir by a neck in the process. The sire is a proven producer of Grade One two-year-olds, and his claims are very obvious if traveling to the U.S.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint Dark Horse to Consider

As the trends suggest, it could be worth examining runners at bigger prices when making Breeders’ Cup picks on the Juvenile Turf Sprint. Adonius is one that shouldn’t be overlooked for the Rebecca Menzies yard, as the gelding looks well-suited to a five-furlong sprint, having finished in the first two on all six career starts. He took his form to the next level last time to win the G3 Summer Stakes over course and distance at Keeneland.

Harper’s Corner could also be a very interesting chance for the Cathal Lynch yard. The two-year-old has been running strong races in high-quality contests throughout the season, winning the Schuylerville Stakes over six furlongs, before finishing second behind the talented Summer Starlet in the G1 Spinaway. Dropped back to six furlongs to take second in the G3 Matron on her turf debut, beaten only half a length by Brickyard Belle. Dropping back further to an extended five furlongs could really suit.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint 2026 Picks

While European raiders should be respected, there are questions for many to ask when it comes to the distance of the Juvenile Turf Sprint. Adonius is the most interesting contender, but this year’s race could be a rare victory for the U.S. on the turf.

Harper’s Corner is a must for exotics, and I am tempted to make her my top choice. However, the value play could be Wesley Ward’s Fanshell Beach. The two-year-old was only beaten a length by Adonius in the G3 Summer Stakes, and things didn’t go to plan that day.

She was previously excellent, winning the Riverside Rush Stakes at Ellis Park and running a stormer on just her second career start when fifth in the G2 Norfolk, beaten four lengths by Orthodox. Speed figures put her in the mix, and she will get the weight allowance against the boys.
