Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies 2026 Leading Contenders
Miss Monica (Bob Baffert)
Miss Monica will head the betting for the BC Juvenile Fillies this year. The two-year-old by Early Voting was an impressive six-length winner of the G1 Del Mar Debutante on her latest start, ensuring that she will travel to Keeneland with a perfect record.
A speed figure of 114 was achieved in that win, but it remains to be seen how strong the form really is. The runner-up on that day, Crazy Hot Mess, was previously only third in the G3 Sorrento, meaning that questions could be asked of the healthy winning margin. It is always hard to get a handle on the Baffert juveniles, as they may win by impressive margins, but they are arguably up against weaker opposition on the West Coast.
Summer Starlet (Steve Asmussen)
Steven Asmussen will have his sights set on a second Juvenile Fillies win in six years this year, but the claims of Summer Starlet were slightly dented when finishing as the runner-up behind Emphatic in the G1 Alcibiades Stakes.
The two are clearly very impressive fillies, as they pulled 18 lengths clear of the remainder of the field, but Summer Starlet raced too keenly in the opening stages, which hindered her finishing effort. An impressive win in the G1 Spinaway prior to that effort ensures that she retains plenty of interest, registering a speed figure of 116 when finishing four lengths clear of Harper’s Corner.
Emphatic (Brendan Walsh)
Emphatic emerged as a leading contender for the BC Juvenile Fillies with a dominant win in the G1 Alcibiades Stakes at the start of October. She will bid to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Immersive and Wonder Wheel, who won the race on their way to Breeders’ Cup glory.
It was an excellent ride by Tyler Gaffalione at Keeneland last time, as he controlled the pace before making his move at the optimal time. There was no fluke about the win either, as the Nyquist filly showed plenty of ability on her first two starts, clocking speed figures of 90 and 100. Improving with every run, and that makes her a very interesting contender.
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Dark Horse to Consider
There’s an argument to be made that Dotsy would be much shorter in the betting if she was trained by sexier connections. However, it can’t be argued that she has been impressive on back-to-back starts, showing versatility with wins at two different tracks. After breaking her maiden at Saratoga, she stepped up to a mile to land the G1 Frizette by an impressive two length margin from Rum Twist.
A speed figure of 100 puts her in contention, while further improvement can’t be ruled out as a daughter of Tacitus, with notable graded winners improving over further such as G1 Arkansas Derby runner-up Silent Tactic. Life is Good filly, Life Changing should also be respected if putting a disappointing run in the G1 Spinaway behind her as a half-sister to the highly regarded Preakness winner Seize The Grey.
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies 2026 Picks
The trends suggest the market typically gets this race wrong, and questions could be raised about the top two. Emphatic was very impressive last time and is respected.
However, Dotsy would be the mean play, as she looks more than capable of building on her impressive Frizette success. That race has been a notable stepping stone to the Juvenile Fillies, with recent winners such as Just F Y I and Echo Zulu following up at the Breeders’ Cup.
