Valley View Stakes: Betting Preview
More eyes than usual will be on Keeneland this weekend, as handicappers look to find any potential bias ahead of next weekend’s Breeders’ Cup. The feature on Friday is run over a mile on the turf, with a talented field of ten going to post for the G2 Valley View Stakes.
All eyes will be on Sister Troienne for trainer Brian Lynch. The three-year-old has been competitive in graded company throughout the season, and was last seen finishing second in the G3 Winter Memories at Belmont. She is a previously winner over further at Keeneland, but was well beaten when only fifth in the G2 Appalachian in April at the track.
Ultimate Love was well beaten by the market favorite in the Winter Memories, but the Michael Trombetta runner has back class to consider, having finished a very close second in the G2 Lake Placid at Saratoga. Was previously highly regarded as a two-year-old, finishing fifth in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
Spin A Tune and Essential Lady are both worthy contenders on this step up in grade following strong efforts in allowance optional claimers last time, with the latter winning impressively at Churchill Downs for the team of Jonathan Thomas and Jose Ortiz.
Saffie Joseph’s stable is in red-hot form at present, ensuring Dakotah Blue shouldn’t be completing overlooked. The three-year-old ran below her best at Kentucky Downs last time, finishing fifth in the G3 Dueling Grounds Oaks. But, this drop back to a mile should suit having previously won the G3 Ontario Colleen.

I think there are more than enough doubts surrounding Sister Troienne’s ability over a mile to take on the favorite in the Valley View Stakes this weekend. Therefore, Spin A Tune could be of interest for the Brendan Walsh team. She was only narrowly beaten in a Churchill Downs allowance race last month, but had previously stamped her authority in two races prior, scoring mighty figures in the process. A mile at Keeneland should suit her style, and she is likely the overlooked contender in the betting.
