Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Trends
The trends can help pinpoint the best chances in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. You can find the key stats below:
- The American Pharoah Stakes has produced four of the last seven winners of the Juvenile, including Citizen Bull in 2024.
- Favorites are 0-3 since Corniche’s win in 2021. Only one winning favorite has been recorded in the Juvenile since 2018.
- Bob Baffert has trained the winner of the Juvenile in three of the last seven editions. Todd Pletcher has trained the winner in two of the last three.
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Leading Contenders
A red-hot edition of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile is set for Del Mar on Oct 31. However, few two-year-old’s have been as exciting at Ted Noffey for trainer Todd Pletcher.
The juvenile has won three-from-three under rules, which included a dominant showing when landing the G1 Breeders’ Futurity by over two lengths from Blackout Time at the start of October.
Brant represents the hugely respected Bob Baffert yard at Del Mar. The two-year-old is unproven over longer than a mile. However, he was visually very impressive when landing the G1 Del Mar Futurity in September. Bred to excel over further, and clearly deserves respect.
Blackout Time was firmly put in his place by Ted Noffey at Keeneland earlier this month, and despite being well-bred for Kenneth McPeek, he is unlikely to reverse the form with the Pletcher star.
The American Pharoah form will be represented by two runners, including the winner Intrepido. However, he could be vulnerable in this rematch against the Baffert-trained Desert Gate.
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Pick
Ted Noffey looks like the standout selection based on available form. However, Desert Gate could be the value angle for Baffert. The two-year-old has substance to his form after finishing a length behind Brant in the G1 Del Mar Futurity. Looks bred for this distance and wasn’t beaten far, when second in the G1 American Pharoah last time out.
