Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Leading Contenders
A competitive edition of the G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint is set for Del Mar on Saturday. Big-priced runners have upset the odds in recent memory of the race, meaning that bettors shouldn’t be put off by a runner at a big price.
However, Motorious currently heads the betting after winning on his last two starts since a six-month layoff. The Philip D’Amato runner was awarded the G3 Green Flash Handicap on his latest start, with Reef Runner deeming to have interfered with the eventual winner’s final effort.
Reef Runner has since bounced back to winning ways for David Fawkes since that decision, and the four-year-old could still be improving. A low draw certainly enhances his chances this weekend.
Ag Bullet has some solid form lines in the book, and was most recently in action when seeing off Simply In Front by just under a length in the G2 Ladies Turf Sprint at Keeneland. Ran well in this race last year when finishing a neck behind Starlust.
A number of European-trained runners will also be involved this weekend, including Arizona Blaze. The three-year-old was an excellent winner of the G1 Flying Five at the Curragh in September, and a quick surface should play to his strengths. Deserves massive respect from a low draw.
Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Pick
Invincible Papa and Khaadem are two runners worth considering at bigger prices this weekend. The former is a talented four-year-old from Japan, who boasts an excellent finishing kick. Meanwhile, Khaadem showed his quality for trainer Charlie Hills when winning at Keeneland at the start of October. Both will run big races at big odds.
