Race Preview
Early clues ahead of next year’s Kentucky Derby will be on offer at Keeneland on Saturday, as the G1 Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity will be staged. The race has thrown up some high-quality winners in recent years, including Forte, Essential Quality, and Knicks Go.
Ewing appears to be a high-quality colt from the Mark Casse yard, and the two-year-old will be aiming to maintain his perfect career record this weekend. He was visually very impressive at Saratoga in August when beating Obliteration by a length. From a family with wins in this race.
Big Dom is also another runner in this field sporting a perfect record under rules. The Thomas Amoss runner was a winner on debut in late August when winning impressively over an inadequate distance by a neck. Should improve now running over further than a mile.
Blackout Time represents the respected Kenneth McPeek yard in the Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity this weekend. Plenty of positives can be taken from his recent win at Ellis Park, as he sensationally beat a field of eleven other runners by a nine-length winning margin.
Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity Picks
Todd Pletcher has trained two of the last three winners of the Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity, and Ted Noffey appears to be incredibly progressive. The two-year-old was sensational on his latest start in the G1 Hopeful Stakes, beating a high-class field by eight lengths.
