Coronation Cup Stakes: Betting Preview
The second of the graded stakes races on the Saratoga card this Saturday comes in the form of the G3 Coronation Cup Stakes. A rapid 5 ½ furlongs will be covered by the field on the turf, with a field of six runners set to take their positions.
Cy Fair looks like the obvious win contender for the George Weaver yard. The three-year-old was an excellent winner of last year’s G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint, and she has since followed up that memorable success with a stylish win in the G3 Mamzelle.
George Arnold’s Sapphire Beach could be the most interesting alternative this weekend. The three-year-old has made quick progress for the team this season, and showed that there is plenty still to come with her finishing effort last time when second in the G3 Limestone.
William Mott is represented by Quiet Street in the Coronation Cup Stakes on Saturday. However, it could be easy to overlook the filly. She was behind Sapphire Beach when eighth in the G3 Limestone, and has also been well beaten in the G2 Wonder Again and Memories of Silver Stakes.
Brad Cox’s excellent record in the race should be respected, as he chases a third win in the Coronation Cup Stakes on Saturday. Therefore, Cadenza should be competitive. She is closely matched with most rivals on ratings, and confidence will be high after landing the Take The A Train Stakes in May and claiming third in the G3 Soaring Softly.
Coronation Cup Stakes Picks
Cy Fair will be a short price to win the Coronation Cup Stakes for good reason this weekend. She is one of the most exciting turf sprinters in the U.S., and it is hard to overlook her proven form at the highest level in this field.
