A stacked afternoon of horse racing action is set for Saratoga on Saturday, August 23, with the card headlined by the 2025 G1 Travers Stakes. However, it could be argued that the most fascinating race of the day comes over seven furlongs in the form of the G1 Forego. You can find the odds and picks here.

Race Preview

A stacked afternoon of racing action is set for Saturday at Saratoga, but it could be argued that the most fascinating race on the card comes in the form of the G1 Forego Stakes. The race has formed an important prep ahead of the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, with Cody’s Wish famously completing the double in 2022.

Mullikin appears to be an obvious starting point this weekend after winning the race 12 months ago. However, he will need to reverse the form with Book’em Danno, who has got the better of the five-year-old in both the G3 True North and G2 Alfred G. Vanderbilt.

But, this will be a first meeting between the horses over seven furlongs. Still, Book’em Danno’s form looks incredibly strong after finishing within a length of the talented Mindframe at Churchill Downs over the trip in the G1 Churchill Downs Stakes in May. That could be the best available form line in the race on Saturday.

Most Wanted is a fascinating contender for trainer Brad Cox. The four-year-old has been improving at a rapid rate, and was last seen finishing within two lengths of Fierceness in the G2 Alysheba Stakes. Drops back to seven furlongs this weekend, but that should be no issue after winning over the distance last year.

Scotland could be a runner that is massively underrated this weekend for the William Mott yard. The five-year-old has little to find on official ratings, and likely needed his return run when third in July to get back up to speed. Unwise to overlook his form at the track.

Forego Stakes Picks

This looks like a golden opportunity for Most Wanted, as he carries less weight than his market rivals. The form of his second behind Fierceness is extremely strong, and his proven stamina could be vitally important in the closing stages against such a rapid field on Saturday.
