Race Preview

The G3 Holy Bull has produced some notable winners in recent years, with Tiz The Law landing the Belmont Stakes in 2020, and 2022 champion White Abarrio later landing the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic. There is an interesting complexion to this weekend’s race, with unproven runners emerging on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.

Cannoneer is one of the most intriguing runners, as the Brad Cox entry has already been well backed for the Derby. The three-year-old was an excellent winner at Churchill Downs in November, easily beating Cornwall Boss by seven lengths. However, that was over seven furlongs. But, as a son of Into Mischief, the distance should be no issue.

Todd Pletcher also sends an interesting runner to Gulfstream this weekend. Nearly has twice won at the track, recording progressive Equibase speed figures. Last time out, he produced a 92 rating, and this Not This Time colt is fast-improving and deserves respect.

Bravaro goes in the G3 Holy Bull for respected local trainer Saffie Joseph. The three-year-old is two-from-two under rules, winning the Sleepy Hollow Stakes as a Juvenile in impressive fashion in October. Merits respect for a leading course trainer.

Holy Bull Stakes Picks

Will Mott is no stranger to Triple Crown success, but it could be his son that unleashes a star on Saturday. Riley Mott saddles Incredibolt, who is the overlooked contender in the field, in favor of the exciting newcomers.

This three-year-old already has strong form in the book, breaking his maiden at Churchill Downs over a mile, before landing the G3 Street Sense in eye-catching fashion when beating Universe by nearly two lengths.

Further improvement is likely in his three-year-old season, and he is massively overlooked at the prices available.
