The standout Grade 1 on the card at Keeneland this weekend is the Coolmore Turf Mile. As the name suggests, the field will compete over a mile on the turf, and it could offer clues for the wide-open Breeders’ Cup Turf Mile for later in the year.

Master of the Seas looks a very solid contender for the Godolphin team, and he comes into the assignment after winning the G1 Woodbine Mile, a path previously trodden by Modern Games. Victory here will see him emerge as the runner to beat at Santa Anita.

However, a chance will be taken on Todd Pletcher’s consistent Annapolis. The four-year-old enjoys Keeneland, and was the winner of this race 12 months ago. It will require a career-best effort, but he remains a solid contender at the prices this weekend.

First Lady Stakes Odds & Pick

The fillies and mares will be in action on the turf in race eight at Keeneland on Saturday, with a field of eight competing over a mile in the G1 First Lady Stakes. In Italian looks incredibly strong at the top of the betting for Chad Brown after previously scoring a speed figure of 114 when landing the G1 Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland in April.

She is very challenging to oppose this weekend, but a chance could be taken on Joseph O’Brien’s runner. Jumbly has competed at the top level throughout the season, and was a creditable fifth in the G1 Matron Stakes on her previous start at Leopardstown. Wins have been few and far between, but the expected quicker ground will more than play to her strengths.
