Breeders’ Futurity Stakes: Betting Preview
An informative race ahead of the 2026 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile will be run at Keeneland this Saturday, as the G1 Breeders’ Futurity Stakes will be run over the same course and distance as this year’s key two-year-old prep. This race has produced no shortage of potential stars, including the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winners from 2020 (Essential Quality), 2022 (Forte), and 2025 (Ted Noffey).
A field of six will go to post for the 2026 Breeders’ Futurity Stakes, with Todd Pletcher’s recent record in the race likely to ensure that American History is to be respected. The Constitution colt made a dominant start to life under rules, hitting an Equibase rating of 79 when winning a maiden special weight at Saratoga.
Jaded should be open to improvement up in the distance for the Mark Casse yard, as a son of Olympiad. The two-year-old was impressive on debut, winning with an Equibase rating of 77 at Kentucky Downs. Keeneland may not suit his style as well as that track.
Title Worthy is another runner with a perfect record under rules, with the Dallas Stewart-trained runner making a dominant impression when winning in allowance company at Churchill Downs in September, recording an Equibase rating of 86. However, the distance may stretch him.
Phone Booth is a leading contender on all form lines, having chased home the hugely talented Hughes in both the G3 Best Pal and G1 Del Mar Futurity. Yet to win at this level, and could be used mainly as a measure between other horses and the leading Juvenile contender at this stage.
Q B Rocket represents the Brad Cox yard. The two-year-old steps significantly up in distance after breaking his maiden in straightforward style over six furlongs. By Gun Runner, and out of a Quality Road mare, ensuring that stamina should be a main strength.
Breeders’ Futurity Stakes Picks
Brad Cox’s Q B Rocket could be the most interesting runner to watch with an eye on the future, but Kenneth McPeek’s Coach Pope looks like a horse for now. The two-year-old by Ghostzapper was an excellent winner on his first start over a mile last time at Churchill Downs, after splitting the hugely talented Gaudreau and U.S.S. Valor on rules debut at Saratoga.
That maiden looks above average at this time of year, and McPeek knows what it takes to get a winner of this race after landing the spoils with Rattle N Roll in 2021.
