Race Preview
The Sunland Derby will be staged in New Mexico this weekend, with the field of horses aged three competing over 1 1/16 miles. It has been a regular stop on the Road to the Kentucky Derby throughout its history, and it has been run as a Grade 3 contest since being upgraded in status in 2013.
Firing Line was one of the most successful winners of the race after finishing second to the legendary American Pharoah in the 2015 Kentucky Derby. Steven Asmussen has unleashed a number of his Derby contenders in this race across recent years, and he could hold obvious claims with Informed Patriot.

The three-year-old was well beaten on his previous start when finishing third in the Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn Park. However, he has set some quick speed ratings, including the 86 set when finishing third in the G3 Street Sense. Joel Rosario travels to the track to take the ride.
Stronghold has been very consistent for Phillip DāAmato, and he could still have a very key role to play in the Derby picture.
