Race Preview

The G1 Pegasus World Cup Turf has been staged annually since 1986, when it was previously known as the Gulfstream Park Breeders’ Cup Handicap. The turf track will see the field compete over 1 1/8 miles and it has been a major target for European raiders in recent years. That was reflected in 2024, as Warm Heart won for the team of Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore.

There could be further success for European raiders this year, as Charlie Appleby and William Buick join forces with Nations Pride. The six-year-old has won eight from 17 starts on the turf, and he is a seven-time stakes winner. His last venture Stateside saw him claim the spoils in dominant fashion in the G1 Arlington Million.

Integration was the horse behind him on that occasion, and he should put down a better challenge based on his previous efforts at Gulfstream. The most notable of those was a fifth in this race last year when finishing two lengths behind Warm Heart. He has the advantage of a recent run under his belt after winning the G2 Red Smith Stakes at Aqueduct in November.

Major Dude could also be hard to dismiss for the Todd Pletcher team. The five-year-old has won five from eleven attempts on the turf, and was last seen winning a key trial for the World Cup Turf when landing the G2 Fort Lauderdale Stakes at the end of December.

Pegasus World Cup Turf Picks

Nations Pride provides little value in the betting this weekend, but he is a must for all exotics players. A chance could instead be taken on Win For The Money. He was last seen finishing within a length of Major Dude in the G2 Fort Lauderdale, but has some eye-catching Gulfstream Park form after winning the Mt. Steele Stakes by six lengths in May.
