Preview
Cleveland earned a major win over the Orioles on Monday. It was the first time they won two games in a row in over two weeks, posting a shutout win against one of the MLB’s top teams. The Guardians will need to continue to play at this level to stay in contention, despite a weak AL Central. They’ve had disappointing results so far, but have played well this week. Winning this series against Baltimore is crucial for Cleveland.
The Orioles have now lost 3 of their last 4 games, after losing a series to the Rangers that dropped them to 3rd in the MLB in record, and then starting the Guardians series with a 5-0 loss. Despite that, they remain in great shape, having won 8 of 10 games prior to this most recent stretch. Baltimore has continued their success from late last season, becoming a legitimate contender to make a deep run in the playoffs.
Baltimore played surprisingly poorly in the first game of this series, but should see their performance even out a bit in the 2nd game. They’ll have Kyle Gibson (6-3, 3.82 ERA) on the mound against Cleveland’s Cal Quantrill (2-3, 4.75 ERA), as well as the homefield advantage. It’s possible that the Guardians could pick up another win here, but I’m much more confident in the Orioles chances to redeem their loss with a win here.
