  • The Tigers earned a key victory against Texas, winning 3-2.
  • The White Sox lost once again, falling to the Angels, 12-5.
  • Detroit is 1122-1102 in their all-time history against the White Sox.

The Tigers (26-28) and the White Sox (23-35) match up in an AL Central bout. Both are aiming to make the most of a weak division, with varying levels of success. Detroit has heated up, while Chicago falters.

Preview

Detroit managed to avoid being swept by the red-hot Rangers, picking up a 3-2 victory in the 3rd game of the series, after losing the first two. The Tigers went 16-11 in the month of May, after posting a record of 10-17 in April. Their upwards trajectory over the past month has earned them 2nd place in a wide-open AL Central division, sitting just 1.5 games out of 1st place. A good June could see Detroit taking the top spot.

The White Sox have had a very disappointing season so far, falling well short of expectations. They started at an abysmal 7-21, after a 10-game losing streak to the AL East. They had looked to be turning things around, after going 14-9 in their next set of games, primarily against the AL Central. Since then, they’ve again started to slide, going 2-4 in this past week. They need to take advantage of games in the division.

Prediction:

Chicago has the home-field advantage in this game, which should provide them a bit of an advantage. That being said, they’ve been playing really poorly all season long, and the Tigers have begun to get hot. The White Sox need to take advantage of facing rookie pitcher Reese Olson in his first-ever MLB start, but I still like Detroit’s chances of winning this game more. It’ll be a high-scoring win. I’ll take the Tigers, 8-5.
