  • Minnesota fell to the Dodgers on Wednesday, losing 7-3.
  • The Angels lost 3-1 against the Orioles in Baltimore.
  • Los Angeles is 388-355 in their all-time history against the Twins.

The Twins (24-20) and the Angels (23-22) take each other on in an AL clash. Each of these teams sits just a bit above .500, needing a winning streak to fully break free in the standings. The loser may be in trouble.

Preview

Minnesota has extended their lead in the AL Central, now holding a 3.5 game cushion. The Twins are the only team above .500 in their division, and have built that lead by going 5-3 in their last 8 games. Without much competition in the division. Minnesota has done a decent job at picking up wins outside of the AL Central. They can maintain that in this series against Los Angeles, hoping to continue their hot pitching.

The Angels are doing the same thing they’ve done every season for the past decade now. After a solid 19-14 start, they went 3-8 leading up to Wednesday’s win, falling all the way back down to the .500 mark. Los Angeles can’t seem to keep up a winning pace, despite the stars on their team. Last season, they started 24-13, and then went 5-22 after that, completely collapsing. They need to avoid such a steep drop here.

Prediction

These two teams have been pretty balanced this season. The Angels have the home-field advantage here, but the Twins +42 run differential is much better than the +8 Los Angeles currently holds. The biggest factor in this particular game is the pitching matchup. Minnesota’s Joe Ryan (6-1, 2.16 ERA) has been stellar, and has a notable advantage over Reid Detmers (0-3, 4.89 ERA) of the Angels. I’ll take the Twins.
