Whether it’s the summer meet or the fall meet, Del Mar always brings big fields and plenty of turf racing, and that means value for anyone willing to do the handicapping. We go through the full card every race day and give you our selections in every race, plus our best bets and the horses we think the morning line has missed. These Del Mar picks are free and updated before first post on every race day, so check back before you bet.

Friday’s eight-race card opens the fall meet, and the Let It Ride Stakes on the turf is the highlight. Here’s how we’re playing it.

Our Best Bets at Del Mar Today

Race 6: Let It Ride Stakes (1 Mile, Turf)

8Green CarreraL Powell+350
9DeucariR Baltras+600

Ten go to post for the Let It Ride over a mile on the grass, and it’s a tricky race to solve. Tailgunner Joe should run better first time out as a gelding, and Pavlovian and Green Carrera are both worth using underneath in the exotics.

Our best bet on the card, though, is Jodi Bear for Phil D’Amato and Joel Rosario. The St Mark’s Basilica colt won once from five starts in Ireland and is still looking for his first win since coming to the US, but he’s been knocking on the door. In the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby at the end of August, he was a close third after a troubled trip, and a clean run would have put him right in the mix.

He’s back at the track where he ran that big race, and at 3-1 on the morning line, we think this is his day.

Race 2: Allowance Optional Claiming (5 Furlongs, Turf)

Our value play comes early on the card, in this five-furlong turf sprint.

Mark Glatt knows how to win at Del Mar, and he hit at a 15% clip at the summer meet. His runner Private Gem is coming off a career-best 107 Equibase speed figure when second in an allowance optional claimer at Santa Anita, and he drew an inside post, which is a big help in a turf dash this short.

Private Gem has won four of his ten career starts, so he knows how to get to the wire first. If he runs back to that last race at Santa Anita, 3-1 on the morning line is a fair price.

How to Bet On Our Del Mar Picks

Del Mar only races for part of the year, with the summer meet from July to early September and the shorter fall meet, the Bing Crosby Season, in November and early December, so every card counts. The racebooks below accept US players and let you bet on every race at Del Mar, from win, place, and show to exactas, trifectas, and multi-race wagers like the Pick 4.

Where to Find Del Mar at Online Racebooks

Horse racing has its own section at most online betting sites, separate from the sportsbook. Look for the Racebook or Horses tab in the main menu, choose Del Mar from the list of tracks running today, and you’ll see the full card with the morning line and live odds.

Claim a Horse Racing Welcome Bonus

Racebooks usually have their own welcome offers, separate from the sportsbook ones. That’s typically a risk-free first bet on the horses, or a rebate that gives you back a percentage of everything you bet, win or lose. Pick the racebook offer when you sign up, because sports bonuses don’t usually count on horse racing. For a full walkthrough, see our guide on how to bet on horse racing.

How to Place Your Bet

  1. Pick a racebook from the table below and sign up.
  2. Make your first deposit and choose the horse racing welcome offer.
  3. Open the Racebook tab and select Del Mar.
  4. Choose your race, your horse and your bet type.
  5. Enter your stake and confirm.

Check for late scratches and the live odds before you bet, because the morning line is only the track’s estimate.
