All eyes are on the penultimate event of the Race to Dubai as Yas Links hosts the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship. The 70-player field is made up of the leading players in the Race to Dubai rankings, but it could have been stronger.

Eleven eligible players have chosen to skip the event, including reigning Open champion Ryan Fox, Matt Fitzpatrick, Shane Lowry, Ludvig Ă…berg, Robert MacIntyre and Justin Rose. Fox and Fitzpatrick have both said their decision is linked to unrest in the region, as the conflict in the Middle East continues. Last year, only four eligible players skipped the event.

Rory McIlroy

McIlroy will likely need to win either this event or the next to capture the Race to Dubai title. He returns to action for the first time since finishing T42 at the World India Championship, but he has finished in the top 10 in three of his last five starts.

Tommy Fleetwood

Fleetwood was much stronger at the World India Championship, finishing tied for fifth. The 35-year-old has made the top 10 in each of his last two starts since missing the cut at the BMW PGA Championship.

Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton

Rahm and Hatton will both be looking for improved showings after a miserable fall. Rahm will be especially keen to impress on his first appearance since officially leaving LIV Golf in October.

Eugenio Chacarra

Chacarra arrives as the No. 1 player in the Race to Dubai rankings and is an obvious danger to the world’s elite this week. The 26-year-old Spaniard was an excellent three-shot winner of the World India Championship in October, although he followed that up with a below-par T22 at the Korea Championship.

Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship Picks and Golf Betting Tips

Matt Wallace is an interesting angle back at Yas Links after finishing an excellent third at this event 12 months ago. He should be well rested, having last played when finishing T50 at the Baycurrent Championship, and his best results in the second half of the year include a T14 at the Irish Open and a T10 at the BMW PGA Championship.

With 11 eligible players missing from the field this week, the door is open a little wider for those further down the board. Wallace’s course form makes him the value play to win at +2500, and if you want a bit more safety, a top 10 finish at +200 pays out if he simply repeats last year’s performance.

  • Best bet: Matt Wallace to win (+2500)
  • Top 10 pick: Matt Wallace top 10 finish (+200)
