Fight Preview
Kai Asakura is making his UFC debut this coming Saturday. If you’re wondering why Dana White decided to give him a title shot, it’s because the 31-year-old Japanese fighter is 21-4 overall in his professional career, with most of those wins (13) happening by a KO/TKO.
He’s one of the biggest martial arts stars in Asia, famous for his incredible striking. Asakura is a former Rizin champ, who fought in the bantamweight division for five years before deciding to go down to the flyweight class for the first time since 2017.
Asakura’s first flyweight fight in seven years will be against a guy who’s fought the who’s who of this division. Alexandre Pantoja is 28-5, with wins over such elite opponents as Brandon Moreno, Brandon Royval, and others.
He’s on a 6-fight winning streak, with his last three wins happening in title fights. In each of those he won by decision, each time after a real battle in the Octagon that lasted for the full 25 minutes.
Speaking of fights going the distance, each of his five losses happened that way. So, the big question is can Asakura inflict Pantoja his first-ever KO loss?
Alexandre Pantoja vs. Kai Asakura Prediction
It’s no surprise that Pantoja is seen as the favorite in the UFC 310 main event. He’s a much more well-rounded fighter than Asakura, whose No. 1 focus is striking. But we doubt the Japanese fighter will be able to make anything out of his striking, let alone beat Pantoja by a KO.

Instead, our prediction is that, despite doing well in the first couple of rounds, Asakura will get jaded, which Pantoja will take advantage of. He might not finish him, but he will probably land just enough strikes and takedowns in the final two rounds to secure himself another win by decision.
