UFC 332 Main Card Preview
Main Event: Natalia Silva (20-5-1) vs. Wang Cong (10-1)
With former champion Valentina Shevchenko forced to vacate the title due to injury, Natalia Silva and Wang Cong clash for the belt in Salt Lake City. Silva enters on an incredible hot streak, winning 14 in a row. She is fluid in her lateral movement and with combo kicks, using distance management to control her rival and the pace.
Wang Cong emerged recently as one of the title contenders. She has devastating power and looks pretty dangerous in the octagon, yet is untested. We have to say, she is a forced solution for the title bout, because aside from Tracy Cortez, Cong hasn’t had proper tests or a big-time background. And even the win against Cortez was pretty controversial due to an illegal knee strike she launched while the rival was still on the ground.
- Pick: Silva
Co-Main Event: Deiveson Figueiredo (25-7-1) vs. Payton Talbott (11-1)
Payton Talbott once more faces a former champion. This time, Talbott takes a shot at the former two-time flyweight king Deiveson Figueiredo. His length, reach, and relentless pressure striking have made him one of the division’s most dangerous young talents. But not only that. Talbott’s last three bouts all went the distance, against Barcelos, Lima, and the other former champ, Henry Cejudo. So he has excellent stamina as well.
Figueiredo remains a lethal threat with fight-ending power and high-level grappling. Yet he is 38 years old and on an evident downhill, losing 4 of the past 5 contests. Expect Talbott to set a grueling pace early and find a stoppage in the middle rounds.
- Pick: Talbott
Lightweight: Esteban Ribovics (19-3) vs. King Green (36-17-1)
Argentina’s Esteban Ribovics comes into UFC 332 riding high after a standout victory over Edson Barboza. He is a very strong fighter with KO power, and 8 of his 16 wins came that way.
Veteran fan-favorite King Green relies on his shoulder-roll defense and jab timing. And to be honest, that works well because the veteran has 4 straight wins. One thing is sure: this bout won’t reach the final horn, because King usually does his thing early, win or lose.
- Prop Bet: Fight to go the Distance – NO
Welterweight: Roberto Soldic (21-4) vs. Khaos Williams (16-5)
This welterweight clash guarantees fireworks. KSW double-champion Roberto Soldic, who once took down Dricus Du Plessis, finally debuts for the UFC. His main characteristic? Let’s just say that 18 of his 21 wins are via KO.
Khaos Williams also has steel in his fists, KOing rivals in the opening round 7 times so far. However, Soldic is the far more polished striker setup-wise and has better tactics and discipline in the octagon.
- Pick: Soldic
Middleweight: Ateba Gautier (11-1) vs. Roman Kopylov (15-5)
Opening the main card, big-time prospect from Cameroon, Ateba Gautier tests his skills against Russian kickboxing specialist Roman Kopylov. Gautier is raw and athletic, with heavy leg kicks and explosive bursts. He knocked out rivals on 9 occasions.
Kopylov is a patient counter-striker with top precision, but he often struggles when pressed against the fence or controlled on the mat. He has far more experience, but he’s also older. We pick Gautier.
- Pick: Gautier
