Umar Nurmagomedov (20-1) had just one loss in his career, and that was against Merab Dvalishvili in the title fight more than a year ago. Since then, the Russian has bounced back with two wins against Mario Bautista and Deiveson Figueiredo. Both ended with unanimous decisions.
Nurmagomedov is a boring fighter in terms of attractiveness. His battles are tough, grindy, and sluggish, but that’s simply how he executes tactics and wears down his rivals. Of 20 wins, 12 came via decision, and that tells plenty about his stamina and endurance. He is a grappler and a wrestler who knows his way around in the standup, yet prefers to take things to the ground.
Song Yadong (23-9) is a boxer with excellent athleticism. He has been one of the best in the division for the last couple of years, facing only the top names in recent times. He would lose to Petr Yan, then beat Henry Cejudo, before losing again to Sean O’Malley and submitting Figueiredo.
Yadong has 9 KO wins, 4 submissions, and 10 decision wins. He has extraordinary athleticism, but we did notice some limitations in his game plan. He often overextends himself, which results in too much damage taken, but on the other hand, if he endures it, his rivals usually look even worse.

The thing here that will decide this one is Nurmagomedov’s wrestling. The Russian is way too powerful for the Chinese, who, even with support from the stands, won’t be able to manage all the takedown attempts. And when Umar finally grabs Yadong, he won’t let him go without creating damage.
