Alexander Volkanovski holds a 26-4 record and sits at No. 11 in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings. Just a few years ago, he was at the top of the list, but that was the time when he was the featherweight champ.
He can become the champ again if he beats Diego Lopes (26-6) at UFC 314. This is going to be his 10th straight fight for the title. He won six and lost three title bouts in his last nine outings.
First, he lost by decision to Islam Makhachev in the fight for the UFC Lightweight title. He got a rematch but suffered a brutal first-round knockout loss.
Volkanovski then returned to featherweight to defend his title but was stopped again. This time, it happened to Ilia Topuria, who knocked him out in the second round. Speaking of Topuria, El Matador has decided to vacate his title, so Volk got himself a chance to reclaim it.

But for that, he needs to do better than Lopes, who’s a fine fighter with plenty of weapons in his arsenal, but who doesn’t come even close to him in terms of experience.
