  • Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier 3 is the UFC 318 main event.
  • Poirier is 2-0 against Holloway, but UFC 318 odds favor “Blessed” to get his revenge.
  • This is Poirier’s retirement fight and will take place in his home state on July 19.

It’s time to say goodbye to Dustin Poirier. After 16 years in the fighting business, “The Diamond” is calling it quits. He’s a former lightweight interim champ with a 30-9-1 record, who blew three shots at the title.

But he might retire with a belt – the BMF (Baddest Mother****r) belt that’s currently in Max Holloway’s possession.

Judging by the Holloway vs. Poirier 3 odds, that’s not likely to happen. Holloway is a -130 favorite, suggesting that oddsmakers think his chance of winning is 56.5%.

Holloway vs. Poirier 3 Preview

Dustin Poirier is 2-0 against Max Holloway, with wins by submission and decision. He now gets a chance to go 3-0 and walk off into the sunset in front of a hometown crowd in Louisiana.

This is his retirement fight, and the BMF belt is on the line. So, in addition to having fans on his side, Poirier will also have plenty of motivation to win. After all, he’d love to retire with a belt in his possession.

He’s decided to retire, but he’s not old (36), nor is he on a bad run. He did lose his most recent fight, but it happened against Islam Makhachev in the fight for the 155lb title. Plus, he managed to keep fighting for 22 minutes and 42 seconds before the Dagestani fighter beat him with a brabo choke.

A few months before that, however, we saw him derail the BSN hype train – he knocked Benoit Saint Denis out in Round 2.

Speaking of knockouts, Holloway suffered his first KO loss last October against Ilia Topuria. He got the taste of his own medicine in that fight – “Blessed” has 12 KO wins in his portfolio.

The Hawaiian is a hell of a striker who lands over 7 significant strikes per minute, which is among the best numbers in the entire UFC.

Holloway vs. Poirier 3 Prediction

The odds slightly favor Holloway (-130), but with Poirier’s grappling edge, home advantage, and motivation to finish strong, this could be a perfect setup for a highlight-reel farewell. Don’t be shocked if he ends it with his signature jumping guillotine.
