Fight Preview
Renato Moicano (19-5-1) is on a three-fight win streak, with two of those wins happening this year. His first win of 2024 was a unanimous decision against Drew Dober. Despite both landing just 23 significant strikes, Moicano’s grappling dominance was crucial for him winning that evening. The grappling expert landed three takedowns and controlled the ground game throughout the entire 3-round bout.
This marked Moicano’s return after a two-year break from fighting, and his hunger for competition led him back to the Octagon a couple of months later. He faced Jalin Turner in April, beating him by TKO after a flurry of strikes. Interestingly, this was Moicano’s first KO/TKO victory ever, as he usually prefers submissions, which is what you’d expect from a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
His opponent, Benoit Saint Denis is also great when it comes to wrestling and grappling. After finishing his military career, he switched to MMA in 2019, going undefeated in his first nine fights. However, he lost his UFC debut to Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos in a fight in which we saw him suffer a groin strike but still decided to continue.
That loss happened in the welterweight division, after which, BSD moved to lightweight and went 5-0 before losing to Dustin Poirier in March.
That fight saw him land nearly double the strikes of Poirier and make three takedowns while suffering just one. However, a brief moment of Saint Senis’ inattention – or should we say Poirier’s brilliance – led to a TKO in round two.
Renato Moicano vs. Benoit Saint Denis Prediction
BSD was beating Poirier up six months ago but still ended up losing. To recover from the soul-crushing loss, he needs to make a statement at UFC Paris and get a finish against Moicano. His preferred method of finishing opponents is submission. He’s got 9 wins by this method in his portfolio, and we think he’s going to record a 10th one on September 28.
Pick: Benoit Saint Denis by submission
