Event Preview

The finishing line in NASCAR for the 2025 season is creeping into sight, as the YellaWood 500 forms the penultimate event in the round of 8. This weekend, this field will contest over a distance of 500 miles, which is made up by 188 laps of the Talladega Superspeedway circuit.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr was the shock winner of the race last year, while Ryan Blaney has won the YellaWood 500 on two occasions since 2019. There will be increased pressure on Blaney this weekend, as he sits eighth in the current standings, and will require a positive result to stand any chance of making the next stage.

Denny Hamlin appears to be the driver to catch in the Cup Series this season after winning the South Point 400 to extend his advantage at the summit last Sunday. The success means that Hamlin has now won two of the last six playoff races.

However, the chasing pack remain hot on his heels, with the top four in the Drivers’ Championship standings making up the top four in last weekend’s race. Kyle Larson remains in hot pursuit in second, while Christopher Bell finished third for the second race weekend running last time out.

YellaWood 500 Picks

A red-hot edition of the race this weekend is set, and there are plenty of drivers with excellent claims. However, Chase Elliott could be an interesting angle to win the YellaWood 500 for the second time. Elliott has been consistent throughout the playoffs, finishing in the top ten in three of the last four races.
