Serbia didn’t lose a single game in the preparation period, beating the No.2 favorites Germany on the road, and humiliating Luka Doncic and Slovenia as well, 106-72.
From what we’ve seen, the Serbs are ruthless and at least one category above all other teams here. It’s not just about Jokic, but also Nikola Jovic from Miami, young Tristan Vukcevic from the Wizards, and numerous other players with Euroleague experience.
Second-Tier Contender
Germany and France are behind Serbia, but we do need to say right away that France won’t have their top four choices under the rim – Wemby, Gobert, Poirier, and Lessort. And they really looked limited during the preparations.
Meanwhile, the Germans, the reigning world champs, are coming with their best unit, led by Franz Wagner and Dennis Schroder. They’ve hosted Serbia, yet lost that one 91-81, pretty routinely.
Giannis and Luka?
Greece is +1000 to win the gold, and Slovenia is +1200. To be honest, apart from these two guys, these teams don’t have superstars. Slovenia had one win and five losses during preparations, while Greece won three and lost two.
Spain is +1400 to win and unlike before, the Red Fury has a limited team, with just one NBA player, Santi Aldama. Them winning the championship would be a massive upset to be honest.
Darkhorses
Everyone easily forgets Lithuania, which will practically have the home-court edge in every game in Latvia, and of course, the hosts, led by Kristaps Porzingis.
Both of these teams lack the star power they once had, but they will have the crowd behind them and will be fairly solid and cohesive units.
