Game Preview
The Sun Devils (17-15, 7-11 Big 12) struggled throughout most of conference play, losing most of their Big 12 matchups. Despite that, they are coming off a close win over Baylor to advance from the first round. The Sun Devils are also hard to beat when holding their opponents under 70 points, as the team is 10-0 this season when doing so. Massamba Diop is one of the premier defenders in the conference. He has 46 blocks in conference play, averaging 2.7 per game as it’s the second-most of any Big 12 player.
The No. 7 Cyclones (25-6, 12-6 Big 12) ended conference play with a win over Arizona State after losing in ranked duels against Texas Tech and Arizona. The Cyclones had three players honored in the Big 12 postseason awards. Joshua Jefferson was named to the All-Big 12 First Team, Milan Momcilovic to the Second Team, and Tamin Lipsey earned All-Defensive, Second Team and Scholar Athlete of the Year honors. Momcilovic has been the nation’s best marksman this season, as the junior leads the country in 3-point percentage.
Arizona State vs Iowa State Head-to-Head
The two programs have had five meetings in their history, and the result is 4-1 for the Cyclones. The last matchup was in March this year when Iowa State won 86-65 at home.
Arizona State vs Iowa State Predictions
Iowa State seeks a deep run in the Big 12 Tournament as they try to automatically qualify for the NCAA Tournament instead of needing an At-Large bid. Arizona State has racked up ranked upsets this season, possessing talent that can put pressure on the Cyclones during portions of the game. However, the Cyclones boast better overall talent across the board as Milan Momcilovic and Joshua Jefferson could be due for big games. Our betting pick here is the Cyclones to cover a 13-point spread.
