Game Preview
The Buffaloes (14-10, 4-7 Big 12) haven’t had the same form since reaching the NCAA Tournament in 2021 and 2024. Despite a postseason appearance in the College Basketball Crown, they had a 14-21 overall record. This year has seen them be in the middle of the pack of the conference standings as a postseason berth might be unlikely. They lost four of their last six games but are coming off a win over Arizona State at home.
Isaiah Johnson has been a major bright spot as the team’s leading scorer throughout his freshman campaign. He is scoring 16.3 points per game, ranking fourth in the Big 12, as he racked up six 20-point games and counting. The Buffaloes are 29th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.6 and 31st in turnovers per game at 9.8. They also rank 32nd nationally in bench points (30.2 ppg) and 45th in fastbreak points (14.4 ppg).
The No. 16 Red Raiders (17-6, 7-3 Big 12) hope to build on their success from last season, having reached the Elite Eight. They have mostly prevailed with their objective, staying in the AP Top 25 throughout the ongoing campaign. The squad began February with a loss to ranked Kansas before bouncing back with a road win over West Virginia.
Extending from last season, JT Toppin shines as the program’s top star. He leads the Big 12 in rebounding with 10.5 rebounds per game and double-doubles with 14, being third in the conference with 21.8 points per game. He also ranks inside the top 10 nationally in rebounding and scoring, a testament to his quality as an elite collegiate star.
Colorado vs Texas Tech Head-to-Head
The two programs have had 33 meetings in their history, and the result is 18-15 for the Buffaloes. The last matchup was in January this year when Texas Tech secured a 73-71 win on the road.
Colorado vs Texas Tech Predictions
Colorado will have its work cut out for them when they tip off against Texas Tech. The Red Raiders boast talent on both sides of the ball, especially with Toppin being at the center of their on-court success. Nonetheless, if the Buffaloes can’t start the game strong, then the hosts will secure the win in convincing fashion. Our betting pick here is the Red Raiders to defend a 14-point spread.
