Game Preview
The No. 12 Gators (20-6, 11-2 SEC) hope to end a long drought of not winning regular-season titles in the SEC. Even with their national championship win last season, they didn’t obtain the SEC title as the Auburn Tigers secured it. This year presents the best chance for Florida, holding a lead over Alabama and Arkansas. They have won their last six games, recently beating Kentucky and South Carolina. Thomas Haugh leads the Gators in scoring with 17.2 points, while Rueben Chinyelu commands the glass by grabbing 12 boards per game as the nation’s top rebounder. The latter paces the SEC and ranks third in the country with 16 double-doubles on the season.
Things haven’t been pleasant for the Rebels (11-15, 3-10 SEC) throughout conference play. They lost 10 of their first 13 SEC matchups, including an active streak of eight streak, seeing themselves near the bottom of the SEC standings. AJ Storr will look to have a big performance against the conference powerhouse. The SEC Sixth Man of the Year candidate is averaging 18.1 points per game in conference games, the 11th-best mark overall and most among non-starters.
