  • Marquette picked up their 8th straight victory, after defeating Butler 78-72.
  • UConn’s win streak reached 13 following their 101-65 domination of DePaul.
  • These two teams last met on March 10, 2023, in a game that Marquette won 70-68.

Selection Sunday is just a month away! Let’s look at the upcoming clash between the Marquette Golden Eagles and the UConn Huskies. This matchup will go a long way towards deciding the Big East champion.

Preview

Marquette continues to surge, having now won 8 games in a row. They sit in 2nd place in the Big East with a 10-3 conference record and a chance to close the gap with 1st-place UConn by winning here. The Golden Eagles currently project as a 2-seed in the NCAA Tournament, and rank in the top-10 in title odds. They will look for experienced G Tyler Kolek to keep leading the way. He ranks 2nd in the NCAA in assists.

UConn holds a tie for the nation’s longest winning streak at 13 with St. Mary’s. They’ll be aiming to keep their winning ways going in a tough matchup against Marquette. Winning would open up a 3-game lead in the Big East for the Huskies, which would put their chances of winning the conference’s regular season title at around 95%. UConn is aiming to be the first back-to-back NCAA Champion since Florida in 2007.

Prediction

Both of these teams have had excellent seasons, and are playing their best basketball as of late. That will make this game have, more likely than not, a very competitive final result. It will be very difficult for the Golden Eagles to win against the #1 team on the road, though. I see UConn winning it, but not covering.
