Preview
Tennessee had their 7-game winning streak snapped by Mississippi State in a tough road game. Winning on the road in power conferences is harder than ever, leading to multiple ranked teams being upset by their unranked opponents. The Volunteers will be aiming to avoid a similar disappointment in this game against Georgia. They need to bounce back on defense after an uncharacteristically poor performance.
Georgia has won ten games in a row after starting the season out 2-3, putting them on the bubble for an NCAA Tournament seed in early projections. They’ll aim to push further up the field by claiming a signature win in this game against #5 Tennessee. The Bulldogs are 0-1 in their only game against a ranked team so far, but have a great chance to change that at home here. They’ll need their defense to be at its very best.
Prediction
It’s not easy to pick the road team in college basketball, even when they are the better team. Georgia is red-hot, having won 10 games in a row, which will make winning even more difficult for Tennessee. That being said, the Volunteers are 9-1 against unranked teams so far this year. It may be at odds with their 1-2 road record, but I don’t expect them to lose back-to-back unranked games. I’ll take Tennessee to win here.
