Game Preview

The No. 10 Red Raiders (22-8, 12-5 Big 12) continue to stand their ground as one of the best teams in the country despite JT Toppin’s season-ending ACL injury. Going 4-2 in their last six games, they are coming off an upset loss to TCU on March 3. Christian Anderson was named the Big 12 Player of the Week for the third time this season on Monday and leads the Red Raiders with 19.1 points and 7.7 assists per game while Donovan Atwell tops the team with 115 made 3-pointers and is scoring 13.3 points per game this season.

The Cougars (20-10, 8-9 Big 12) are no longer in the AP Top 25 after suffering three consecutive losses to UCF, West Virginia and Cincinnati. Despite the losses, AJ Dybantsa had a 23-point performance in the most recent outing against the Bearcats as he’s still on pace to become the third freshman to lead the nation in scoring at 24.8 points per contest. Meanwhile, Aleksej Kostic has become a third scoring option for the Cougars over the past three games as the freshman is averaging 13.3 points per game shooting 50.0 percent from 3-point range.

Texas Tech vs BYU Head-to-Head

The two programs have had eight meetings in their history, and the result is 5-3 for the Red Raiders. The last matchup was in January this year when Texas Tech won 84-71 at home.

Texas Tech vs BYU Predictions

Texas Tech and BYU are dealing with their fair share of injuries, especially with JT Toppin and Richie Saunders being down for the count. Regardless, they still have games to play as the rest of the supporting casts must step up in their place. With BYU hosting this game and AJ Dybantsa looking to have a statement game against one of the top ranked squads in the country, anticipate BYU to set the tone early on. Our betting pick here is the Cougars to defend a 2.5-point spread.
