  • UConn dominated Seton Hall on Sunday, defeating them by a score of 91-61.
  • Marquette came up short at Creighton, losing 89-75, and dropping to 22-7.
  • These two teams last faced off on February 17, in a game that UConn won 81-53.

Selection Sunday is just two weeks away! Let’s look at this matchup between the UConn Huskies and the Marquette Golden Eagles. UConn has clinched the Big East’s regular season title prior to this rivalry game.

Preview

UConn bounced back from their defeat at Creighton last week, storming past Villanova and Seton Hall by a combined 54 points back at home. The Huskies have been close to unbeatable on their home court, but more vulnerable on the road. They’ll aim to put an end to that in this matchup against Marquette, who they beat by 28 at home a month ago. UConn is aiming to become the first repeat champions since 2006-07.

Marquette faded late in their game at Creighton, after sustaining a couple of key injuries. Most notable is G Tyler Kolek, who suffered an abdominal injury in the defeat. Kolek will miss the Golden Eagles final two regular season games, before being reevaluated ahead of the Big East tournament. Marquette will face an uphill battle against UConn without him, but at least has the benefit of home-court advantage this time.

Prediction

Tyler Kolek’s injury throws a wrench in Marquette’s plans to avenge their 28-point loss from last month. They should post a better showing on their home court, but the lack of some key players will make things that much more difficult. Ultimately, I see UConn winning again, though this time by a single-digit margin.
