Game Preview

The No. 12 Bulldogs (23-2, 11-2 WCC) shine as one of the best basketball squads in the country, enjoying a hot start to league play. However, their 15-game winning streak ended after losing to Portland on the road. While they bounced back with a convincing win over Oregon State, it will be important for Gonzaga to control the momentum early on throughout their upcoming contest.

Graham Ike has performed excellently as one of the best power forwards in the country, earning a spot on the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Midseason Top Ten watch list. He has been an active double-threat with 19.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Meanwhile, Braeden Smith will look to be active in the playmaking department with 4.2 assists per contest.

The Cougars have been shaky throughout their non-conference games and league play, finding themselves in the middle of the pack with regard to the WCC standings. Their last two games against Santa Clara and Oregon State ended in defeats by a combined margin of 14 points.

Ace Glass stands out a scoring threat for Gonzaga to prepare for. He has enjoyed a strong freshman campaign with 16.5 points per game, having scored a season-high 40 points against Arizona State. He ranks fourth in the WCC in scoring, best by a freshman, and inside the top 20 nationally for a freshman. On another note, ND Okafor is second in the WCC in blocks with 40 rejections, ranking 50th at the national level. His defense at the rim will be crucial to giving Washington State a chance.

Washington State vs Gonzaga Head-to-Head

The two programs have had 19 meetings in their history, and the result is 16-3 for the Bulldogs as they won the last eight games. The most recent matchup was in January this year when Gonzaga won 86-65 on the road.

Washington State vs Gonzaga Predictions

The Cougars have an offense that can keep up with opponents, but their defense leaves them vulnerable to multiple breakdowns, resulting in more losses. Gonzaga knew this and took advantage in the last duel earlier this season. With this game taking place on the Bulldogs’ homecourt, it should be expected for the hosts to secure the win in the form of a blowout. Our betting pick here is the Bulldogs to defend a 21.5-point spread.
