Preview

Clemson dropped to 2-2 last week, after losing to Florida State at home. Despite their defeat, the Tigers appear to be moving in the right direction. After being embarrassed by Duke in Week 1, they’ve played at a higher level in the three weeks since. Clemson can prove they’ve bounced back by controlling this game at Syracuse. On the other hand, losing on the road to the 4-0 Orange would be detrimental to the Tigers.

Syracuse is off to another strong start this season. They outscored their first four opponents 177-43, en route to a 4-0 record. They haven’t faced the toughest competition, but the Orange did look impressive in their Week 3 win at Purdue. Last week’s win over Army was not as confident, so Syracuse will need to rebound immediately with Clemson, North Carolina, and Florida State on the schedule for the next month.

Prediction

It’s tempting to pick the undefeated team at home here in Syracuse, but I think it’s a bit of a trap. While the Orange have played better than Clemson so far this season, they also haven’t faced as tough competition. The Tigers were certainly bad in Week 1, but since then they’ve looked like a top-25 team, and I’m not sure Syracuse has enough to overwhelm them. I’ll take Clemson to win it and cover the spread on the road.
