Preview
Ohio State missed a game-winning FG attempt in the CFP semifinals last season, losing to Georgia. Some will be quick to point out that if that kick had gone in, they would have very likely taken home the title. Unfortunately, QB C.J. Stroud is moving on to the NFL, which could cause them to see some regression in 2023. That being said, Ohio State has one of the best rosters in the country, and should rank near the top.
Indiana had another subpar season in 2022, finishing 4-8. It was their 2nd straight season without a bowl appearance, having now posted a 6-18 record in that span. The Hoosiers are still seeking their first bowl victory since winning the 1991 Copper Bowl. They’ll be aiming to bounce back in 2023 before the Big Ten conference grows in 2024. Indiana should take a step forward this season, having a solid recruiting class.
Prediction
This two teams met just 9 months ago, with Ohio State winning 56-14. I expect a pretty similar result, though the Buckeyes offense might not be quite as consistent in Week 1 with a new starting QB. This matchup is also on the road for Ohio State, as opposed to at home like it was last year. Even so, I’d be surprised if the Buckeyes didn’t win this won with confidence. I’ll take them to win and cover the spread.
