NFL Week 8 Picks Against the Spread
Week 8 brings 14 games, with the Texans, Giants, Saints and 49ers all on bye. Our top play is Washington laying 5.5 points at home against an Eagles team without Jalen Hurts, while Miami getting 7.5 at home against a Patriots team that’s 1-3 on the road is our favorite underdog of the week.
Best NFL Picks Against the Spread This Week
Commanders -5.5 vs Eagles
Philadelphia is without Jalen Hurts for the season and scores just 18.1 points per game, failing to top 21 in any of its five straight losses. Washington comes in rested off a bye, and the market has moved our way, with the line climbing from -4.5.
Cowboys -6 vs Cardinals
Arizona has the worst defense in the NFL, allowing 29.7 points per game and touchdowns on more than 70% of red-zone trips. Dallas is coming off a 38-21 win in Philadelphia, and Javonte Williams should run all over this defense.
Jaguars -7.5 vs Colts
Jacksonville comes in off a bye with the league’s best run defense, which is bad news for a Colts offense built around Jonathan Taylor. If the Jaguars take Taylor away, Indianapolis has little else to lean on.
Bills -3 vs Ravens
Lamar Jackson is expected to start, but he may not be at 100%, and Buffalo returns home after back-to-back road wins. At home against a banged-up Baltimore team, we like the Bills to win by more than a field goal, though a three-point Buffalo win would be a push.
Dolphins +7.5 vs Patriots
New England is 1-3 on the road, and its red-zone touchdown rate of 53% ranks near the bottom of the league. That’s a problem when laying more than a touchdown against a Miami team that just ran for 156 yards against the Jets.

How NFL Picks Against the Spread Work
The point spread levels the playing field between two teams. The favorite has points taken away from its final score, and the underdog has points added. If the Chiefs are -3.5 against the Raiders, Kansas City needs to win by four or more for a Chiefs bet to cash. A bet on the Raiders at +3.5 wins if Las Vegas wins outright or loses by three or fewer.
Most spreads are priced at -110, meaning you risk $110 to win $100. Because of that built-in cut, you need to win around 52.4% of your bets against the spread just to break even, which is why picking the right side matters so much.
Some margins matter more than others. NFL games are decided by exactly three or seven points more often than any other margins, so these are known as key numbers. That’s why half-points matter: getting +3.5 instead of +2.5 covers you in every three-point loss. When a spread is a whole number, like -3, a game that lands exactly on it is a push, and your stake is refunded.
