Chargers vs Rams Prediction: Back the Rams to Cover in the Battle for LA
It’s hard to avoid the cliché, but this one really is the Battle for LA. The Chargers are 0-6 and playing for pride, while the Rams need a win to keep their playoff hopes on track, even without WR Davante Adams and Myles Garrett.
You can see all of our NFL picks for Week 8, but here’s why I’m backing the Rams to cover, and how you can bet on Chargers vs Rams.

Game Preview
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers have the worst record in the NFL at 0-6, and the offense is the biggest problem. They’re scoring just 15 points per game, the fewest in the league, and Justin Herbert has been under constant pressure behind a line that has allowed 21 sacks, the most per game in the NFL.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams are dealing with major injuries, but their offense is still the most productive in the league at 399.1 yards per game. Turnovers and red-zone finishing have held them back at times, but Matthew Stafford keeps delivering, and apart from the season opener against the 49ers in Melbourne and the Week 6 loss to the Cardinals, they’ve scored 20 or more points in every game.
RB Kyren Williams is also in excellent form and regularly tops 100 scrimmage yards, which makes him one to watch in the NFL player props market this week.
Chargers vs Rams Predictions
The Rams have real injury problems, but their offense is on another level from the Chargers’. Stafford has far better protection than Herbert, who has taken too many hits through six games, and the Chargers struggle to even get into scoring position.
That gap is the biggest reason we’re backing the Rams to cover. With both teams sharing SoFi Stadium, there’s little true home-field advantage here, so this comes down to quality, and the Rams have far more of it. It’s a lot of points to lay, but against an offense averaging 15 points per game, the Rams can get there.
The over looks like the play on the total. The Rams lead the NFL with 399.1 yards per game and have topped 20 points in all but two games, and with Kyren Williams in excellent form, they can do most of the heavy lifting here. If the Rams build a lead, the Chargers will be throwing late, and even a couple of late scores from Herbert should be enough to push this past 46.5.
At -625, the moneyline isn’t worth backing on its own, but the Rams make a strong parlay leg.
- Best bet: Rams -6.5
- Chargers vs Rams straight-up pick: Rams (-625)
- Chargers vs Rams over/under pick: Over 44
