Game Preview
Let’s be honest here, we really don’t know whether Mike McCarthy is a good choice for the Steelers. Sure, he knows Aaron Rodgers well, but he kinda destroyed his career with a control-freak approach in Green Bay.
The good news is that the run game got a boost with Rico Dowdle landing in Pittsburgh. On top of that, WR Michael Pittman Jr. came from the Colts, so Rodgers now has two excellent targets in Pittman Jr. and DK Metcalf. Also, the Steelers’ defense will be one of the league’s better units.
On the other hand, the Falcons had an interesting summer. They’ve taken the two-time NFL Coach of the Year award winner, Kevin Stefanski, as the new head coach. He’ll definitely try to revolutionize the game with new approaches.
Atlanta got a new quarterback as well – Tua Tagovailoa, who moved on from the Dolphins. Tagovailoa has massive potential to make the Falcons one of the deadliest offenses in the NFL, but we’ll see how that goes. He has RB Bijan Robinson, who led the league in scrimmage yards last year (2,298), TE Kyle Pitts, and WR Drake London. Remember, Tua led the NFL in passing yards in 2023.

Steelers are dominating this rivalry with 16 wins in 19 games. Atlanta has two wins, and one game ended in a tie. The previous meeting was in 2024 when the Steelers won on the road, 18-10.

The Steelers defense will test Tua and Stefanski right away. Though we think that the Falcons have what it takes to go home undefeated. Their attack looks more fluid and diverse, and it has enough power to stun the Steelers early in the season while McCarthy still tries to implement his own ideas into the game plan.
