The Panthers lost in their battle of winless teams against the Vikings, dropping to 0-4. They traded away their 1st-round pick in the 2024 draft to the Bears, so losing does them no favors this season. Carolina has shown some positive signs, most notably the emergence of veteran WR Adam Thielen, who has tallied 25 catches for 275 yards and 3 TDs in the last 3 weeks. The Panthers should improve as the season goes on.
Detroit dominated the Packers in what must have been a cathartic rivalry victory for the team and fan base. The Lions now sit alone in first place in the NFC North, with a legitimate chance of claiming their first division title in three decades. 2022 2nd-round pick Aiden Hutchinson continues to impress, improving even further on an already solid second season. Rookie TE Sam LaPorta has also been fantastic for Detroit.
Prediction
This game is an important opportunity for both teams. For Carolina, they’ll be trying to avoid an 0-5 start, or at the very least see some signs of improvement. Meanwhile, Detroit will be hoping to take advantage of this matchup and further build their lead in the NFC North. I think the Lions should be able to win, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this game is much closer than expected, so I wouldn’t bet on them covering here.
